MAYOR Gerald Shimbart needed a steady hand as he penned a message to the Queen.

The Havant mayor was the first to sign a book of congratulatory messages to the monarch.

The book, which is located in the reception of Energie Fitness for Women in North Street, Havant, will be sent to Buckingham Palace as a gift from the people of Havant borough to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

Cllr Shimbart said: ‘It’s a brilliant idea.

‘It gives recognition from the people of Havant borough of what the Queen has done over the last 60 years.

‘She’s been a wonderful example to everybody.’

Mayoress Elaine Shimbart said: ‘I am sure the book will fill up very quickly.’

Angie Rose, who runs Energie Fitness, said: ‘It was very exciting having the mayor here, all the ladies were really looking forward to it. We wanted to do something that involved the whole community.’
