WICKHAM will be starring in prime-time tomorrow when it appears on BBC’s The One Show at 7pm.
As reported last month, the TV show’s crew was in Wickham with top chef Ainsley Harriott to spring a surprise meal on Barry Samways and his wife Chris at the 1st Wickham Scouts new hut. The couple were being honoured for giving more than 20 years volunteering with the Scouts.
The One Show visited the village’s Co-op, which donated food and drink for the party, and to film Scouts as they helped customers with bag-packing and a cheese-tasting.
The supermarket also donated £10,000 from its Community Support Card scheme towards the new scout headquarters, to replace the one burnt down in 2006.
The TV show also visited Swanmore Butcher, McCarthy’s Farm Shop and Stainers bakery in Bishop’s Waltham, who also supported the celebrations.
Retail business manager at The Southern Co-operative in Wickham, Pete Wearn said: ‘It was great to welcome The One Show and Ainsley to the store and the town. Filming was fun and we appreciate that our community involvement was acknowledged.’
