Mikayla De Beer, seven, who lives on the base with her father Louwres, said: ‘The fireworks were good, especially the big ones at the end.

‘I really like the purple ones – they were pretty.’

There was also a large bonfire and a funfair at the event organised by the Military of Defence.

Reece Urry, 10, of Swarraton Road, Havant, said: ‘The bonfire was massive – it was really cool.

‘And the fireworks were amazing too. They were really big and loud.

‘It was all very impressive.’

Many waved their sparklers at the annual event and stayed on to enjoy the fair long after the display had finished.

Simon Hewitt-Henderson, 27, of Paulsgrove Road, North End, said: ‘It was a great family atmosphere – the kids loved it.’
