DRAGON boats will roar this weekend.

Teams from across Emsworth will battle it out on the Mill Pond on Sunday to raise money for the RNLI.

Atrocious weather forced organisers to cancel the event in May, which would have rounded off the town’s St George’s Week celebrations.

It has now been announced that it is going ahead this weekend and everyone is welcome to take part.

Giles Babb, landlord of The Bluebell Inn, South Street, is hoping to wrestle the title from Emsworth Sailing Club.

He said: ‘The Blue Bell Pirates will be competing against The Blue Bell Buccaneers and a host of other teams.

‘It’s going be a great day of family fun.

‘All the money from our T-shirt sales goes to the RNLI and there will be collection buckets.

‘We haven’t done that much training but I’ve laid down some ground rules to everyone.

‘They must not drink or eat any cakes the day before – we want them all in tip-top condition.’

Registration begins at 10am and the first heat is at 10.45am.

The grand final is at 2pm with the prize giving ceremony at 2.30pm.
