A RAFT of road changes could be on the cards if a 700-home estate is approved.

Councillors at East Hampshire District Council are being recommended to give the green light to the development at Hazleton Farm, Horndean, at a meeting next Wednesday.

Among the proposed measures are a new roundabout and priority junction in Havant Road, upgrading the roundabout at Dell Piece East, a new signalised crossing in Havant Road, and a dedicated left turn from Dell Piece East on to the southbound slip road of the A3(M).

The Highways Agency is supporting installing traffic lights at junction 2 of the A3(M).

If approved, the council would also ask for a range of transport improvements, including new cycle routes across Horndean and Clanfield, traffic calming, and money to support bus services.

The development continues to divide opinion.

Rowlands Castle Parish Council is objecting to the proposal based on ‘grave concerns’ over the impact on traffic using the B2149. But Horndean Parish Council is supporting the plan.

Seventy-two letters have been submitted to the council – 44 in support, 26 objecting and two neutral.

The South Downs National Park Authority is objecting to the plan based on the potential visual impact to the park.

A decision will be made at the meeting at Horndean Technology College from 6pm.
