TRAVELLERS turned up for a family gathering in Portsmouth last night.

Nine caravans and three mobile homes arrived in a section of the car park at the Mountbatten Centre, in Stamshaw, around 6pm.

Police had followed them into the city after being evicted from Pebble Beach car park in Gosport earlier in the day.

The travellers told community wardens from Portsmouth City Council they intend to leave by Saturday morning following a family get-together.

Wardens said the council was due to serve the group an eviction notice today telling them they would need to leave at the weekend anyway. The rest of the car park stayed open.
