TRIBUTES have been paid to Howard’s Way star Dulcie Gray, who has died aged 95.

The actress, best known for her role as Kate Harvey in the BBC series, which was based on the River Hamble. died on Tuesday in a care home in west London.

Tom Richardson, owner of the Elephant Boatyard in Bursledon, the central location which was used in the hit TV series, said: ‘She was always a special person.’

In 1986 Gray helped launch the 45ft yacht Barracuda, which was used in the series, by breaking the champagne bottle.

Mr Richardson added: ‘They had to film the launch from every angle, so she ended up going through quite a few bottles!’
