DJ Martin Kirby is broadcasting his new radio station for one week only – from a pub.

Flash FM has been given a seven-day FM licence which runs until tomorrow at midnight.

Mr Kirby’s passion for classic rock and blues music drove him to set up an internet station at theflashonair.co.uk a year ago.

He has now ploughed all his savings into the FM radio station and has set up home for the week at The Churchillian pub on Portsdown Hill.

He said: ‘I helped set up Angel Radio, the nostalgia station, based in Havant, because I have a strong interest in radio stations that are aimed at specific audiences.

‘There’s so much good music out there that doesn’t get played – rare or album tracks for example.

‘And there are so many brilliant local, unsigned acts that I think people should be able to listen to.

‘Because they are local they can go and see them down the pub in the evening.

‘I want to take their songs to a much wider audience.

‘That is the focus of the station.’

Listen to The Flash on 87.9 FM, until midnight on Friday.
