THE show is over for Portsmouth-born X Factor star Josh Cuthbert, after his group was voted off the TV show tonight.
Union J – made up of band members Josh, George Shelley, JJ Hamblett and Jaymi Hensley – had been in the bottom two three times since making it to the live shows.
Each time they clung on, but tonight their hopes of being crowned X Factor winners were dashed.
Instead, contestants James Arthur, Chris Maloney and Jahmene Douglas will go on to the show’s final next week.
Josh was unavailable to talk to The News, but said on stage: ‘We’re so happy with how well we’ve done and we’ve got a lot to thank X Factor for.’
Josh, 20 – who has been linked romantically to fellow contestant Ella Henderson, 16 – was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Milton Road, Milton, Portsmouth.
He was a pupil at St Jude’s CE Primary School in Southsea and Kingscourt School in Catherington before moving away from the area.
Before the results show, the boys’ mentor Louis Walsh pleaded with fans to keep them in the competition.
They were his last act left in the ITV1 show.
When he heard they had been voted off, Louis said: ‘I’m a little disappointed but we were ready for it. They’re going to be the next big boy band.’
Union J’s exit means Josh will return to the city of his birth, as they are due to perform at Tiger Tiger in Gunwharf Quays on Friday.
The boys performed for the final time at the close of the show.
They had sung with Rod Stewart at the beginning of the results programme. Pink and Tulisa also performed on the X Factor stage.
