PORTSMOUTH Film Society is launching its annual festival dedicated to screening lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-themed films.

The month-long Pride LGBT Film Festival begins on February 3 with the film Pride.

The upbeat movie is based on a true story set at the height of Margaret Thatcher’s power and at the time of the National Union of Mineworkers’ strike, which prompted a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families, which action won unlikely respect and support for the gay pride activists from the miners themselves.

The festival, at Eldon Building, Winston Churchill Avenue, is a collaboration between the University of Portsmouth’s LGBT staff forum, Peccadillo Pictures UK, BFI FAN, Southeast HUB and the LGBT Society at the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union.
