THE upbeat style of the Urban Vocal Group rang out around the Wedgewood Rooms when it performed its latest sell-out show.

The UVG is an award-winning singing group made up of 11 to 18-year-olds across the area.

In order to keep the tuition free they hold a fundraising showcase each year at the Southsea venue and it was packed with more than 200 supporters at its third annual show.

Forty young singers performed two hours of contemporary classics arranged by musical director Amba Tremain and performed by a live band.

Director Charlie Fletcher said ‘We were delighted to have another full house tonight, it makes all the hard work worthwhile and the young people have had an experience that they will not forget for the rest of their lives.

‘We also feel that it is important that any young person, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to take part in music which is why as a charity we provide our activities free of charge to our singers.

‘We are actively seeking funding to continue and expand the work that we do and hope to involve many more young people in music for at least another 6 years.’

The group hope to have raised nearly £1,000 from the concert which will provide much needed funds to enable them to continue into 2015.
