AN AWARDS evening to celebrate the contribution of volunteers in Havant is due to take place this month.

The event, run by Community First, will recognise the time and energy given by people in the borough.

More than 50 nominations from across the voluntary and community sector were received for the six categories; Young Person of the Year, Business Team of the Year, Voluntary or Community Team of the Year, Mayor’s Special Commendation, Lifetime Achievement and Unsung Hero.

Winners will be announced at the ceremony at Langstone Technology Park on Thursday, May 25 at 5pm.

Havant’s Deputy Mayor Elaine Shimbart, who will become the Mayor of Havant next week, and Paul Livingston, vice president of Lockheed Martin, will be presenting certificates to the winners.

Pupils from Warblington School will be providing musical entertainment during the evening, which has been sponsored by Havant Borough Council, Lockheed Martin and Tesco. For more e-mail julie.eden@cfirst.org.uk
