RAMBLERS strapped on their walking boots and took to the hills to see out the end of another year.

The Portsmouth Ramblers met at Cosham Train Station before heading off to South Harting to begin their seven-mile trek through the countryside.

The journey took the 18 walkers over the Beacon Hill and back to Elsted.

Member Carol Golding, who organised the walk with her husband Steve, said: ‘Everyone had a good time. The walk was a bit strenuous and there was mud underfoot, but it felt really nice to see out the last day of the year in the fresh air and the outdoors, rather than drinking.’

Steve added: ‘It was quite a tough walk. Climbing the South Downs is really steep.’
