TV chiefs have been forced to apologise after shutting off an entire Yorkshire village for filming of the Grand Tour - without telling its residents.

Presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May descended on the village of Farnley Tyas, near Huddersfield on Wednesday.

Fuming residents say security staff then closed off local roads for the next two days so filming of the hit Amazon Prime show could take place in secret.

Locals said the unannounced closures forced them to take a 10 mile detour just to drive from one side of the quaint, hilltop village to the other and caused 'chaos.'

Yesterday a spokesman for the TV production company behind the show apologised to villagers for not warning them.
