EVEN tiny tots are getting into the Olympic spirit.

Water babies at a swimming club took part in archery, sailing and even equestrian events – all in the water.

Caroline Braund from the Water Babies swimming school, based at the Mary Rose School, Southsea, said: ‘It was good fun.

‘We had relay races with both babies and parents. For the equestrian event the babies got on their parents backs like horses and swam up and down.

‘For sailing, the babies swam round on floats pretending they were boats and we even had synchronised swimming. The babies all swam under water at the same time.’

But the fun was in aid of a good cause and £300 was split between the charity Tommy’s and Queen Alexandra Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

Caroline added: ‘Lots of the parents at Water Babies have had the benefit of the facilities at QA and we wanted to recognise that.’
