IT IS like something out of a fairytale.

When Wayne Ames got his usual delivery of pink lady apples he was surprised to see a unique specimen.

One of his pink ladies had one side red, the other green with the two colours meeting exactly in the middle with a straight line.

Wayne, who owns Southsea Fruit and Veg, in Albert Road, said that customers have been shocked but interested in his apple.

He said: ‘I got the apple delivered with the rest of the produce about two weeks ago.

‘People who have come in and seen it have been quite shocked.

‘It looks like two different apples have been stuck together but it is one whole apple.

‘For some reason it is completely different colours on the two halves.’

Apart from the odd shaped potato, Wayne has never seen anything like this before.

He added: ‘We do get some fruit and veg that are a bit weirdly shaped but nothing like this.

‘It has been catching the eye of customers but I don’t think I’ll be selling it.

‘I would quite like to keep it actually as I am still showing people.

‘More people than I thought have been interested in seeing it.’

Wayne’s friend, Nick Perry, was particularly shocked.

He said: ‘I have never seen anything like it before; it’s really odd.’
