THIS peacock caused a stir when it ventured away from home and ended up in a tree in West Leigh.

Mike Collins was out walking his dog when he came across the unusual scene in Prospect Lane and couldn’t help but take a picture.

The 55-year-old, of Stansted Crescent, said: ‘It was about 6.30am and I heard lots noise and saw this.

‘I only knew it was up there because it was next to a crow’s nest and the crows were making an almighty noise trying to get rid of it.

‘By the time I’d got back it had gone.’

Adrian McKay, head farm ranger at nearby Staunton Country Park, said it could well be one of the park’s.

‘Four of them went off for a couple of days walk on Friday afternoon which they often do at this time of year. They fly to lower branches and hop up.’
