Here’s our guide to major public fireworks displays around the area.

HMS Sultan

HMS Sultan Bonfire and Fireworks

Where: HMS Sultan, Military Road, Gosport, PO12 3BY.

Date: Thursday, October 29.

Time: 6pm until 10pm.

Price: Family (2+2) £15, adults £5, children under 14 £4.

Why: This year HMS Sultan is welcoming X-Factor star Jahmene Douglas to its stage as he kicks off the live entertainment before the firework display. Fire-eaters, a funfair and a bonfire can also be enjoyed at the naval base as it sets off an array of shimmering illuminations across the seafront. More information: forcesgosport.2day.uk.

Fareham

Boundary Oak School Bonfire and Fireworks

Where: Roche Court, Wickham Road, Fareham, PO17 5BL.

When: Saturday, October 31.

Time: 5pm onwards.

Price: Adults £6, children £3.

Why: This display is produced by the award-winning Pains Fireworks company and will also see a bar, barbecue and stalls. The school has urged people to buy their tickets before the event to avoid disappointment.

Whiteley

Whiteley Fireworks

Where: Meadowside Recreation Field, Whiteley Way, PO15 7LJ.

Date: Sunday, November 1.

Time: 5.30pm onwards.

Price: Family (up to 2 adults and 4 children) £5, Adults £3, Children 11-16 £1 and under-11s free.

Why: Organised and funded by Whiteley Town Council with the help of the Rotary Club of Whiteley, the display will be taking place at 7pm, but visitors can enjoy a wide range of foods and fairground attractions before it kicks off. A collection will be held for The Rotary Club of Whiteley and people are asked not to bring their own fireworks or sparklers. More information: whiteleytowncouncil.co.uk

Gosport

Fireworks at the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower

Where: Priddys Hard, Gosport, PO12 4LE.

When: Sunday, November 1.

Time: 5pm until 9pm.

Price: Adults £6, children £4, families £15.

Why: Hosted by Wave 105 Radio’s Rick Jackson, the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower will certainly live up to its name. The entertainment includes fire performances, bouncy castles and food.

Cosham

Cosham Fireworks Display

Where: King George V Playing Field, Cosham, PO6 3XA.

When: Wednesday, November 4.

Time: 4pm onwards.

Price: Free.

Why: Arranged by Portsmouth City Council, it is Portsmouth’s biggest firework display. From 6pm there will be live music and entertainment on the field, while there will be various eateries and funfair rides to enjoy.

Entrants are reminded to not bring their own fireworks or sparklers.

Thorney Island

Thorney Island Station Fireworks and Bonfire

Where: Baker Barracks, Emsworth, PO10 8DH.

When: Thursday, November 5.

Time: 6pm onwards.

Price: £2 per person for guests walking in, £10 per car and free entry to serving personnel and their families.

Why: Food, drink and a funfair for children and adults. This year the fireworks event promises to be Thorney Island’s finest.

LEIGH PARK

Stockheath Common Fireworks Display

Where: Stockheath Common, Leigh Park, Havant.

Date: Thursday, November 5.

Time: 7.30pm until 8.30pm.

Price: Free

Why: Havant Borough Council is holding its annual free firework display.

For more than 16 years the council has organised this fabulous display for the benefit of its residents, always on the traditional historic date, no matter which day that may fall.

The giant bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm and the dazzling firework display will start at 7.45pm.

Rowlands Castle

Rowlands Castle Firework Display

Where: Recreation Ground, Links Lane, Rowlands Castle, PO9 6AF

Date: Saturday, November 7

Time: 5.30pm until 8.30pm

Price: Adults £5, children under 16 free

Why: With the bonfire being lit at 6pm, the fireworks are being set off at 7pm.

The Rowlands Castle Association is looking for donations of wood that can be used to fuel the bonfire.

SOUTHSEA

Southsea Fireworks and Fairylights

Where: Palmerston Road, Southsea.

When: Thursday, November 12.

Time: 4pm until 6pm.

Price: Free.

Why: The firework display follows the Christmas lights switch-on. Entertainment will come from Heart FM and the station’s Warren Hayden, a News columnist, will be the compere.

Gunwharf Quays

Gunwharf Quays Fireworks Night

Where: Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, PO1 3TZ.

Date: Friday, November 13.

Time: 6pm onwards.

Price: Free, but donations to Mencap are encouraged .

Why: Set against the backdrop of Spinnaker Tower and the waterfront, free music and fireworks make Gunwharf ideal for an evening of sparkling colours.
