GREEN campaigners hope Bradley Wiggins’ win at the Tour de France will encourage local authorities to introduce more cycle routes.

Ray Cobbett, Hampshire co-ordinator of Friends of the Earth, said Havant Borough Council’s record on cycle paths was good but could be better.

‘Locally, we hope the Wiggins factor will strengthen the council’s determination to infill the missing links between various parts of the borough’s network,’ said Mr Cobbett.

He added: ‘We hope they will provide more secure bike storage and ensure businesses do the same.’

The council is reviewing cycle tracks across the area.
