THE deadline for nominations for a sport awards ceremony has been extended – and more women are needed.

The East Hampshire Sports Awards, hosted by broadcaster Fred Dinenage last year, is inviting nominations until January 20.

The awards not only recognise sporting excellence but also club members who show extra commitment and dedication to improving in their sport.

Club support staff are also recognised with awards for coaches, volunteers and officials.

Chosen finalists will be invited to the awards evening on February 27 at The Old Thorns Manor Hotel in Liphook.

Councillor Ken Carter, in charge of communities at East Hampshire District Council, which organises the awards, said: ‘We have been very pleased with the number of nominations we’ve received so far, but with women currently under-represented, we have taken the decision to extend the deadline.’
