THE walls of Portsmouth’s iconic Round Tower were brightened with a colourful display from a Portsmouth artist.

The exhibition, titled Art, ran for two weekends in December and featured the work of local artist Michael Jones.

Mr Jones said he gets his inspiration for his brightly coloured pieces from the wonders of nature.

He said: ‘Art is everything you look at. Imagination can conjure artistic shapes and colours from anything.

‘My inspiration for my distorted, but colourful, art is volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, ice and fire.’

The Round Tower in Old Portsmouth was converted for use as an exhibition gallery in 2011.

It is the oldest of the series of permanent fortifications in Portsmouth, and was completed in the 1420s.
