IT’S less than a year since Alex Higgins won first place at his school talent show – and now he’s stormed his way into the finals of Open MicUK.

Inspired by successful bands such as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and One Republic, the 10-year-old will compete in the national music competition, with the support of his fellow classmates at Mayville High School in Portsmouth.

Despite his success, Alex is keeping his options open.

He said: ‘If I can’t be a rock star, I’d like to be a rugby player and play for Italy.’
