CHILDREN spread some festive cheer by giving gifts to elderly people.

Youngsters from Puddle Duck Day Nursery in Southsea paid a visit to Bluewater Care Home in Kingston Road in North End.

They gave out pairs of bed socks to the residents at the care home to celebrate Christmas.

Sue Mooney is the nursery manager.

She said: ‘Unfortunately we live in a society where not a lot of young children are in touch with their grandparents.

‘So once a month we take a group of them there and they visit the elderly people and play games with them and draw pictures.

‘We bought some bed socks and the children wrapped them.

‘I think it’s a good thing to do. They love it there.

‘The children were nervous at first but once they got there I think they all enjoyed it.

‘I think it changes them and stimulates them because it’s different. The children were buzzing when they came back and from what Bluewater have told me, the elderly people were too.’
