SCOUTS from Portsmouth are enjoying a week of activities in a dedicated summer camp designed to help them learn new skills.

The group attending Hampshire Scouts Summer Camp will try climbing, rafting and hiking as part of their adventure break.

It is taking place at Lyons Copse, in Shedfield, and comes to a close on August 25.

Charlie Beddoes, 13, from the 53rd Portsmouth Scouts in Paulsgrove, is looking forward to going to Romsey Rapids.

She said: ‘Not only are we cooking for ourselves, we’re also learning new skills like first aid.’

Josh Green is from the 28th Portsmouth Scouts, based in Baffins.

The 12-year-old said: ‘I’ve made some new mates and I’m going on a cycling trip with them.

‘Pioneering has been the most challenging part so far.’

There is currently a waiting list of young people wanting to join Scouting.
