WHEN they were chosen to be in a music video, Courtney Layton and Chelsea Lane never thought they would get to perform the song live on stage.

But the pair will travel to America next month to perform their cover of Somewhere Only We Know by Keane, which was made famous by Lily Allen in the John Lewis Christmas advert last year.

The girls will fly to Atlanta on December 4 and will perform on the Saturday.

They were chosen to sing the moving song over an emotional video telling a story of children living up with cancer.

Courtney, a musical theatre student from Portchester, said: ‘I’m really excited. It’s going to be amazing. I’m a little bit nervous but we are performing together which should make things easier.

‘We never thought we would get to do something like this off the back of making the video.’

Chelsea, from Havant, added: ‘I went over in May for a different show but this will be totally different so I am bit nervous. But I’m looking forward to going back to Atlanta. It’s an amazing opportunity for us both.’

Courtney and Chelsea auditioned for the music video which was produced by Dani Geddes.

The photographer was inspired to do the film by a three-year-old cancer patient Phoebe.

Dani said: ‘I was asked to take pictures of Phoebe last year when she was in hospital.

‘Then in December, I saw the John Lewis advert and I found it confusing how such a lovely song was telling the story of a bear and a rabbit. Every time I heard the song, I thought of Phoebe.

‘So I started thinking about making a music video which would give parents hope and just touch as many hearts as possible.’

Dani put an advert for singers on Facebook and Courtney, 16, and Chelsea, 15, were chosen to be in the video.

Since being posted in March, the video has had more than 20,000 views on YouTube.

Dani and the girls hope to increase this number with their performance at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

The event is being held by American modelling agency, Child Models who have worked with Dani in the past.

Dani added: ‘The girls have been given the chance to perform at the Child Model fashion event.

‘It is a massive two-day event with fashions shows and loads of entertainment.

‘I sent Child Models the video which they loved it because they are supporting a young American girl living with cancer. They thought it was very fitting and invited the girls over to perform during their show.’
