KAYAKING requires water – as two girls found out to their peril.

The young kayakers were caught out in Chichester Harbour, near Warblington, when the tide rushed out, leaving them marooned on the mudflats.

An RNLI lifeboat from Hayling Island and the coastguard mud rescue team were called out by a member of the public at about 5.45pm on Saturday.

Alan Bartlett, spokesman for Hayling Island RNLI, said: ‘They had left it a bit too late to get back home and the tide goes out off the mud fairly quickly.

‘They were nearer to the shore than they were to the channel where our boat could get to.

‘It was agreed the coastguard mud rescue guys would attempt first.’

A coastguard spokeswoman said: ‘They taken from the mud at 7.05pm safe and well.’
