Person dies in Waterlooville fire

FIREFIGHTERS have confirmed a person has died after a serious fire in Waterlooville.

Two fire engines and police cars went to Woodsedge, in Stakes, at about 10.45am after reports of a blaze at a home.

A crew from Havant fire station and another from Waterlooville fire station went to the scene.

The person who died in the fire has not yet been formally identified.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Two crews were mobilised to Woodsedge in Waterlooville this morning to a fire in the ground floor of a property.

‘Firefighters wore two sets of breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

‘Sadly, one person died at the scene.

‘We are working with Hampshire Constabulary to investigate the circumstances around the incident.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.’

She added: ‘We have two community safety officers to the area giving fire safety advice to support the local residents.’

A police spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that an investigation into the circumstances of the fire will be undertaken in due course.

‘Road closures are currently in place at the junctions with Jasmine Grove and Springwood Avenue.’
