Person killed on Hampshire rail line

A person has been killed after being hit by a train on a Hampshire rail line.

The tragedy happened at a crossing in Mount Pleasant Road, Southampton, shortly before 11am today.

South West Trains said in a statement: ‘Following a person being hit by a train between Brockenhurst and Eastleigh, we will shortly be able to reopen the railway.’

The company said several routes were affected.

‘London Waterloo to Poole/Weymouth: Trains will run between Weymouth/Poole and Southampton Central and between Eastleigh and London Waterloo.

‘Romsey to Salisbury via Chandlers Ford/Southampton: Trains will not be able to run between Eastleigh and Romsey via Southampton but can run between Eastleigh and Romsey via Chandlers Ford.Trains may be cancelled or altered at short notice.

‘Portsmouth to Southampton: Trains may be cancelled or altered at short notice.

‘Great Western Railway services between Cardiff and Portsmouth will be diverted via Eastleigh and will run non stop from Romsey to Fareham.

‘Southern services between London Victoria/Brighton and Southampton: Trains may be altered at short notice.

‘Replacement coaches are en route to Southampton Central, Brockenhurst and Eastleigh railway stations.

‘We’re sorry for any disruption this may cause to you.’
