THOUSANDS of pounds are up for grabs.

The Have Your Say scheme run by Hampshire County Council is giving Havant and East Hampshire district councils £17,500.

Community First will get the cash for the councils to hold four events in Havant, Hayling Island, Waterlooville and Leigh Park.

Residents will be able to vote on local projects and the winners will receive a slice of the cash.

In total the county council hands out £200,000 a year for the scheme.

Councillor Andrew Joy, executive member for communities, said: ‘The scheme gives people a real voice in how money is spent in their local area and provides an opportunity for grass-roots community projects to be supported.

‘The core principles of the scheme are to identify and respond to community needs by enabling residents to select funding opportunities.

‘Districts across Hampshire have already benefited from this scheme through grants awarded last year.’
