PICTURES: Historic photos show Queen Elizabeth's visits to Portsmouth over the years

To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne, we've had a look back down memory lane at Her Majesty's visits to Portsmouth.

Her trips to our city have included seeing HMS Victorious arrive back home after the Falklands War in 1982, and meeting officers from the Royal Navy at HMS Daedalus in the 50s.

Today the Queen becomes the first British monarch to reach a Blue Sapphire Jubilee, 65 years to the day since she ascended to the throne.

Her father, King George VI, died in 1952 aged just 56.
