KEEN poker players will unite at a city pub to show off their skills in aid of a good cause.

Patrons will sport their best poker faces in a charity tournament at the Star and Garter pub in Copnor on Sunday.

All proceeds from the afternoon event will go towards the pub’s chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, which has a base at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

Entry into the tournament – which still has places left, of a possible 32 – is £5 and players will compete for a £100 prize pot.

Spectators are welcome to attend the event, which will start at 1pm, running until 5pm.

Unsuccessful participants will also have the chance to re-enter the tournament within the first two hours of play.

Organiser Paul Goater said: ‘If you have never played before, this is the perfect opportunity. It’s only £5 to enter, you’re not going to lose your shirt and it’s all for a good cause.’
