ORGANISERS have been forced to call off a charity dragon boat race.

The race was due to take place on Emsworth’s Mill Pond on Sunday morning.

But four teams have pulled out at the last minute meaning the event is no longer financially viable.

Giles Babb, the chairman of Emsworth Business Association, said he was disappointed that the event had to be cancelled.

He said: ‘Regretfully due to the unavoidable last-minute withdrawal of a number of teams that had entered we are faced with no alternative but to cancel.

‘A lot of hard work and organisation has gone into bringing this event back to Emsworth, so to cancel at this late stage is disappointing to say the least.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to say a particular thank you to Fat Face and the Southdowns Water Company, who very kindly provided sponsorship for the event, the Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club for hosting, and the support of Havant Borough Council.

‘I can confirm that we plan to run the event again in 2015 – bigger and better.’

Saturday’s farmers’ market will still go ahead.
