AN ELDERLY man died after an accident in Stubbington.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash between a Peugeot and a moped close to Crofton Community Association on Stubbington Lane at around 11.30am today.

The driver of the car, a man in his 70s from Fareham, lost consciousness at the scene and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham where he later died.

The moped rider, a 42-year-old Fareham woman, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The road from Stubbington Green to Bells Lane was closed for three hours while police officers investigated the scene and the two vehicles were recovered.

Diversions were in place from Eric Road and Gosport Road but were lifted shortly before 3pm when the road was reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to it, is asked to contact PC Alex Dale at Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Firefly.
