A MOTORCYCLIST and his passenger have died following a serious road traffic collision.

Julian Farley, 25, and Jessica Ellis, 23, from Tudor Crescent, Portsmouth, were riding on a black Triumph motorcycle along the A339 from Basingstoke towards Alton when the incident happened at 6.30pm yesterday evening.

Police say the crash happened as a black Nissan Micra attempted to overtake an unidentified blue vehicle.

Mr Farley, the rider of the motorcycle, was travelling behind the Micra when he lost control and collided with a road sign. Police are trying to establish the reasons for this.

The driver of the Nissan Micra – a 17-year-old man boy from Alton - was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Police are now trying to trace the driver of blue vehicle which continued on its journey, possibly oblivious to the collision. They want the driver to come forward as they may hold vital information which could assist with the investigation.

Sgt Paul Plews, of Farnborough Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘This is a very sad incident where two young people lost their lives.

‘We are appealing for anyone who may have information regarding the collision, no matter how small or insignificant they feel it is, to contact us.

‘We are now preparing a file for the coroner’.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, the two vehicles involved prior to it, or a blue vehicle on the A339 at the time, is asked to call PC Nick Barman at Farnborough Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Apsley.
