A MAN who died after large bales of hay fell on to his car has been named.

William Daish, 70, of Compton Road, Hilsea, died in Street End Road, Sidlesham, near Chichester. The welder was on his way to work.

As reported, Mr Daish was driving a red Alfa Romeo when he was in collision with bales of hay, which came off the trailer of a tractor travelling in the opposite direction.

The incident happened at about 7.10am on September 28.

A 25-year-old man, from Selsey, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail until January 9.

The road was closed for several hours while crash investigators examined the scene. A spokeswoman for Sussex police said an inquest into the death had been opened and adjourned.
