POLICE in Portsmouth are searching for a 56-year-old woman who has gone missing from the Eastney area.

The missing woman is described as being of large build, and wearing a grey jacket, blue trousers and glasses.

A police spokesman told The News: ‘She is a patient at St James’s Hospital who was on day release and was due back at 5pm.

‘We are concerned for her welfare because yesterday she had to be pulled from the water.

‘We have a helicopter up searching and RIBs in the water searching the coastline.’

The RNLI are helping with the search and are using flares over the water to look for her. A helicopter has been scrambled from Oxford to help in the search.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the woman to call 101.
