AN OLD scrapyard is set to provide the foundations for a string of retirement homes.

Developers are preparing to submit a planning application to build the homes at Travers Yard in Bishop’s Waltham.

If approved, the homes for the over 60s will see 36 one and two bedroom apartments and three cottages built on the old scrap site at Coppice Hill.

Shane Paull, the regional managing director of McCarthy and Stone, said: ‘It is our aim to transform this site with a signature development, which will feature a high-quality design to complement the character of Bishop’s Waltham.’

Plans for the new development will be submitted to Winchester City Council within the next month.
