Brexit: Portsmouth South MP says '˜we have to stabilise economy'

PORTSMOUTH South MP Flick Drummond has said the economy needs to be stabilised following this morning's EU referendum result.

Mrs Drummond was supporting the remain campaign.

Speaking to The News, she said: ‘The first thing we have to do is stabilise the economy and have a period of stability.

People depend on these markets for their pensions, their employment and travel.’

On the resignation of prime minister David Cameron, which was announced this morning, Mrs Drummond added: ‘I am very sad. I think he has been a very good prime minister and a very unifying prime minister.

‘He gave us the referendum which a lot of people wanted. It is sad for the country as well as the party.

‘We have now got to see who we think if the best person to rule the country.

‘It has got to be someone everyone can respect.

‘At the same time, I hope it does not distract us from the real jobs like getting people out of deprivation and the importance of education which are so vital to people in Portsmouth.’
