BUSINESS secretary Vince Cable will be the next top politician to visit Portsmouth.

The senior Lib Dem MP will visit the city next week to meet businesses and interested parties to discuss Portsmouth’s situation.

He will be the latest in a line of senior MPs to come to Portsmouth in the wake of the shipbuilding closure.

Michael Fallon met city leaders yesterday, Philip Dunne visited the week before that, and Marc Francois was in Portsmouth for HMS Illustrious’ homecoming ceremony.

Michael Fallon said: ‘The next visitor down here will be Vince Cable.

‘Although I’m minister for Portsmouth this does not mean other ministers won’t be visiting, on the contrary, I want other ministers to come down here.

‘And that will be starting off with Vince Cable next week.’

Mr Fallon pledged to make regular visits to the city as part of his new ministerial role.
