A BY-ELECTION has been called for a new councillor to represent a ward in Leigh Park.

Havant Borough Council has called the election for Battins ward following the resignation of Liberal Democrat Katie Ray, a trainee teacher who was just 20 when she was voted in two years ago.

Ms Ray was due to serve as a councillor until 2014, but resigned due to work commitments and uncertainty about where she might be living.

The by-election is due to take place on Thursday, November 15.

Nomination papers should be delivered to the returning officer, Public Service Plaza, Civic Centre Road, Havant, by midday on October 19.

Applications for postal votes must reach the council’s electoral registration officer by 5pm on October 31.
