LABOUR has come under fire for distributing leaflets about a general election candidate standing in a different constituency.

Flyers promoting Labour Portsmouth North candidate John Ferrett have been spotted on voter’s doorsteps in Fratton – which comes under Portsmouth South.

Portsmouth South independent candidate Mike Hancock says it was bizarre given the Labour candidate in the constituency is Sue Castillon.

But Cllr Ferrett hit back saying Mr Hancock should concentrate on his ‘duel’ with Lib Dem Portsmouth South candidate Gerald Vernon-Jackson.

Mr Hancock said: ‘It’s absolutely bizarre.

‘You have to be a complete stranger to Portsmouth to think Fratton is in Portsmouth North.’

Cllr Ferrett said: ‘Mr Hancock should be concentrating on his personal duel with Gerald Vernon-Jackson, rather than being detracted by my leaflets, that may have inadvertently appeared in the wrong area.’
