CHINESE lanterns are now banned from county council buildings.

Hampshire County Council boss Cllr Roy Perry today decided to prohibit them from being used on any council-owned property.

The move comes amid safety fears and a 2011 county council appeal to the government to ban them being sold.

Sky lanterns – known as Chinese lanterns – are small hot air balloons made of paper.
