COASTGUARD operations for the Solent will move to a new base in Titchfield in 2014, the government has said.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is reforming the way its stations work across the country.

As part of the plans, the current coastguard station at Lee-on-the-Solent will close and be replaced by a state-of-the-art centre at Kite’s Croft.

Transport Minister Stephen Hammond yesterday said the plan is to open the centre in 2014.
