A COUNCILLOR fears plans for a council-run sports scheme to become a charity will mean a reduction in services.

Councillor Andrew Gibson, who is in charge of culture, recreation and countryside for Hampshire County Council, made the decision to let the Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight to become a charitable organisation from April next year.

But Ukip councillor Chris Wood, pictured, said: ‘The council will reduce what it gives by £280,000.

‘Shiow said it will bring in the money from grants, but it doesn’t show how much and from where.

‘The decision is disappointing, we should be increasing physical activity for children.’
