THE average household in Chichester will have to foot an extra five pence increase per week in council tax.

Chichester District Council’s cabinet voted to accept the rise to balance its books in 2014/15.

It comes as they try to weigh up how to offset a reduction in government funding of more than £630,000. It is now down to the full council to accept the proposal.

Councillor Tony Dignum said: ‘This has been a tough year but we have met it with some very robust forward planning that has allowed us to ease the pressures on front line services.’
