East Hampshire community votes on cash for good causes

GRANTS of between £250 and £1,000 have been given to voluntary organisations in East Hampshire after the public voted on where the money should go.

There was £5,000 up for grabs from the local authority to give to good causes in the Petersfield area under the Approved By You initiative.

Members of the public heard presentations from 25 voluntary groups and charities before scoring each of them to decide who should receive funding. Petersfield Stroke Support Group, 1st Sheet Scout Group and Southern Domestic Abuse Service were amongst six successful organisations.

Councillor Julie Butler, from East Hampshire District Council, said ‘It is clear from the attendance at tonight’s event that this has been well received by the community.

‘This truly is localism in action, with local people at the heart of the decision-making process, distributing funding to who they feel is most in need and deserving of assistance.’
