A COUNCIL’S planning committee is set to be streamlined in a bid to reduce bureaucracy.

Planning decisions across East Hampshire are set to be made by a single, 12-councillor planning committee.

Currently there is a separate committee for southern areas such as Clanfield and the northern parts of the district such as Alton.

Councillor Ken Moon, who is in charge of development at East Hampshire District Council, said: ‘The move to a single planning committee consisting of 12 comprehensively-trained councillors will result in a more efficient and effective planning committee meeting.

‘It will ensure consistent and quality decision-making across the district, including our area of the South Downs National Park. A smaller planning committee will be more dynamic and less bureaucratic.’
