THE councillor in charge of economic development is happy with government policy to build homes at Daedalus.

Cllr Stephen Philpott, chairman of the economic regeneration board at Gosport Borough Council, welcomed the news.

He said: ‘We are delighted that the homes to be provided at Daedalus will be affordable homes.

‘With fewer constraints, it means they will be ready sooner than previously expected.

‘Also this announcement means that millions of pounds will be provided for infrastructure on the sites which will be of great benefit to the development.’

Cllr Philpott added the 200 houses have already been agreed for the site within the Gosport Local Plan and received outline planning approval.

‘As a council we worked hard to achieve an Enterprise Zone with the aim of attracting businesses to provide local jobs for local people,’ he said.

‘Work has now commenced on the £7m Daedalus Drive and businesses are coming to the site creating employment.’
