EARLY indications show Ukip has surged in the European Parliament polls.

Results for the South East region, which covers the Portsmouth area, have yet to be announced.

Ten MEPs will be returned for the area in the election. People voted on Thursday but counting had to wait until after the last EU member state finished their poll.

The 73 MEPs will be elected from nine regions in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
