Fines amnesty across Portsmouth libraries this Saturday

LIBRARIES across Portsmouth will be holding a fines amnesty this Saturday to celebrate National Libraries Day.

Fines and charges owed by members of the city’s nine libraries for overdue, lost or damaged items – no matter how many years they go back – will be waived on February 4 only.

David Percival, library service learning and engagement manager, said: ‘National Libraries Day is a day of celebration of reading, libraries and library staff around the UK.

‘We don’t want people to miss out on their fantastic library service because they are worried about outstanding fines and charges.

‘I hope as many people as possible will take advantage of this offer.’

Lindy Elliott, library services manager, added: ‘We warmly welcome all Portsmouth residents to celebrate National Libraries Day with a visit to their local library.

‘Our staff will be standing by to take back any outstanding loans, be ready to clear tickets and assist you in making your next selection from our excellent stock.’

The maximum amount of fines is £6 per book. Portsea Library is closed on Saturdays.
